Bahrain move irks businessmen

Businessmen here have reacted sharply to Bahrain’s plan to scrap the sponsorship system for foreign workers and said if such a move was made here it could spell disaster for them. Manama has announced it would enforce on August 1 a new labour law that would allow expatriate workers to switch jobs without seeking permission from their employer. Minimum Wage Hike for Filipinos in Qatar

After the standard contract scheme, Overseas Filipino Workers in the country are set for more good news, with the Philippines and Qatar working on increasing their minimum monthly wage to QR1,400 or $400.Vivo Vidal, Philippine Labour Attache in Doha, told The Peninsula he is waiting for guidelines on the bilateral labour agreement between the two countries that will formally increase the minimum wage of OFWs in Qatar.The salary increase forms part of the agreement reached by Philippine Labour Secretary Marianito Roque and Qatar's Labour Minister during the former's visit to Doha early this week, Vidal said. Aside from the pay hike, labour officials of both countries agreed that a standard contract scheme will now be used for all OFWs hired to work in Qatar, with the English translation of the contract to prevail in most of the provisions. Revised salary for maids in Qatar

 Visit http://www.findjobsinqatar.com to view latest jobs in Qatarfrom GulfTimes The Philippine embassy has stipulated that the minimum monthly salary for a Filipina maid must be QR1,500, starting from January. Sources in local recruitment agencies have told a Qatari Arabic daily that a number of embassies have been demanding huge increases in the salary of housemaids from their respective countries and this amounted in some cases to 100% rise. According to a source, the Philippine embassy revised the salary for Filipino maids after the Indian embassy raised the salary for Indian maids to QR900. “The Filipino embassy has told recruitment agencies that the salary of Filipino maids should not be less than $400 a month in the new contracts that will be signed effective January 1, 2007.
