H1N1 Virus is in Qatar

After receiving a SMS from the The Supreme Council of Health last night denying the occurrence of Swine Flu in Qatar, newspapers in the morning reported three cases of Swine Flu in Qatar. All the three cases were officially confirmed by the Minister of Heath H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani yesterday, the newspaper reported but I also got the SMS message from QTEL yesterday. Very misleading and confusing. Make up your mind so that people don't panic nor spread rumors about cases of swine flu....

Oh My Gout!

About 3 weeks ago, Christian woke up feeling pain on his left foot.  It was the area between around his big toe to be exact.  At first he thought that it was nothing that he was even able to go to work that morning.  But then when he came back for us (it was Xiane’s first day in school after the half term break) he was already limping and I could see that he was in terrible pain.  He still managed to drive to Xianelle’s school though.  Although he wasn’t using the left foot for driving it was painful just the same and more painful even with the slightest movement.  He then decided to see a doctor.  As soon as the doctor heard the symptoms and after having seen his foot, the doctor told us that he suspect that it was gout.  Naturally, Tian and I were so surprised to...

Not the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

This is year is by far the worst that we've ever had when it comes to our health. It's just that the three of us keep getting sick, one after the other. Now that she has recovered from it, another one sets in. The other day, her eye just started showing symptoms of conjunctivitis, in layman's terms, sore eyes. My suspicion was confirmed when the symptoms continued the day after. I don't what is it here in Qatar but in our four-year stay in Saudi, we had never been this sick. I hope it is just the change in weather conditions that's causing all this trouble. I hope next year we'll be better equiiped in fighting off any infection that will be coming our...

Health Services

I only have praises for the Children's Emergency Clinic at Al Sadd. We are so pleased with the health services that they have for their patients. They really make sure that you're kid gets the best medical attention that they can give. They don't stop at nothing, until they get to the bottom of your child's ailment. I am talking based on personal experience. I guess having brought Xiane there twice has earned me the right to give my evaluation of their health services. They not only have good and clean facilities but most of all, they have friendly and competent nursing staff. We are especially thankful to the Filipina nurses who took good care of Xianelle. Special mention goes to Nurse "Fem", (I hope I spelled it right) who I believe takes her job to heart. She was especially concerned about the patients despite the busy schedule that she...
