Oh My Gout!

About 3 weeks ago, Christian woke up feeling pain on his left foot.  It was the area between around his big toe to be exact.  At first he thought that it was nothing that he was even able to go to work that morning.  But then when he came back for us (it was Xiane’s first day in school after the half term break) he was already limping and I could see that he was in terrible pain.  He still managed to drive to Xianelle’s school though.  Although he wasn’t using the left foot for driving it was painful just the same and more painful even with the slightest movement.  He then decided to see a doctor.  As soon as the doctor heard the symptoms...

Not the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

This is year is by far the worst that we've ever had when it comes to our health. It's just that the three of us keep getting sick, one after the other. Just this week, we had to confine Xiane at the Pediatrics Emergency Center (the one I've been calling Children's Emergency Clinic) after falling ill with gastroenteritis. Now that she has recovered from it, another one sets in. The other day, her eye just started showing symptoms of conjunctivitis, in layman's terms, sore eyes. My suspicion was confirmed when the symptoms continued the day after. I don't what is it here in Qatar but in our four-year stay in Saudi, we had never been this sick. I hope it is just the change in...

Health Services

I only have praises for the Children's Emergency Clinic at Al Sadd. We are so pleased with the health services that they have for their patients. They really make sure that you're kid gets the best medical attention that they can give. They don't stop at nothing, until they get to the bottom of your child's ailment. I am talking based on personal experience. I guess having brought Xiane there twice has earned me the right to give my evaluation of their health services. They not only have good and clean facilities but most of all, they have friendly and competent nursing staff. We are especially thankful to the Filipina nurses who took good care of Xianelle. Special mention goes to Nurse "Fem", (I hope...

Brave Xiane

Last Monday was the most difficult time we've ever had since Tian and I became parents. It was hard both physically and emotionally not only for us but for our daughter most of alll. She started throwing up at 6pm and kept doing so every 30 minutes. After several times, we thought that it was more than just indigestion so we decided to bring her to the Children's Emergency Clinic. On our way there, she had to vomit 2 more times in the car. It's a good thing that we had anticipated this and brought along a basin. As soon as she was examined by the doctor, he ordered the nurse to give Xiane an injection to hopefully stop her from vomiting. Xiane was really...

Under the Weather

It has only been two days since I got sick. Now I'm up and about, except for cough and some pain on my throat. It's Tian who's feeling under the weather now. He's been having recurrent fever since last night. He fell ill with tonsilitis and flu that's why today, he went to work to have his sick leave form signed by a physician. After dropping off our daughter to school, I had to fetch him from his office. There he was feeling so cold as he sat in the car. He just looked so poorly. As soon as we reached the house, he changed into jogging pants (which is rather unusual) because Tian is the boxer-shorts type of guy even on cold days. He...
