Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants, a popular Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) team, arrived yesterday morning to entertain basketball fans here. They will be playing against teams from Qatar, Jordan and Al Sadd Club.

"Although USA's Team Unity won't be able to make it, a powerful selection of players from Al Sadd Club will be playing in lieu of the US team," said Pat Carido, Pinoy Basketball of Qatar (PIBAQ) Chairman. The American team was supposed to arrive to complete the 'Four Nation' equation for the three-day friendship games.

"This will be a good chance for the team to practice in preparation for the upcoming PBA season which opens on October 4," Alvin Patrimonio, the team's manager and PBA four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) told The Peninsula upon their arrival at the Doha International Airport.

"Playing with Qatar and Jordan will boost the confidence and relationship of the whole team. We also expect to bring some entertainment to Filipinos here," Patrimonio added.

The players were in high spirits as this is the first time for most of them to be playing in Qatar. "It is a good experience to come to Doha. I'm excited to play against the other teams and bring joy to fellow Filipinos based here," said James Yap, 2005-2006 season PBA MVP and husband of Kris Aquino, celebrity daughter of former President Corazon Aquino.

A recent survey shows that Purefoods TJ Giants is one of the two most popular PBA teams. After Doha, the Giants will have a quick stop in Singapore where they will be competing against the Singapore Slingers
