Ramadan Traffic Jam

The worst thing during Ramadan is traffic jam since the timings for schools and offices are almost the same.  But in my three years in Doha, I believe that this has been the worst traffic that I’ve ever experienced.  This year, the traffic situation has reached its peak probably because there have been more cars and a lot of roads are still under construction, a major one would be the D-Ring Road.

Yesterday it took me 40 minutes to get to my husband’s office.  We had to fetch him as our Citroen is in the service center.  Today, however was worse, as it took an hour for me to get to his office.  I was so frustrated to still get caught in traffic, to think that we left 10 minutes earlier than yesterday.  It was crazy and total chaos.  Almost everyday, there are accidents.  Yesterday there was one at Salwa Road and another one along C-Ring Road.  Today there was a car blocking the road going to Midmac Roundabout; that the vehicles had to go up the ramp on the side just to get through.  I guess people are just crazier during this time of the year, more hotheaded and reckless.  These days, aside from the frustration there also that feeling that the roads are unsafe more than ever.  If people could be more sensible, then maybe being caught in traffic won’t be that bad.

These days, whenever I’m on the road driving, I almost wish that Ramadan would be over so that the traffic situation will be a little better (I hope!).
