iPhone 3G in Qatar

New 3G iPhone in Qatar
After a long wait, the rumored iPhone 3G has actually been unveiled by Steve Jobs himself at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2008 (WWDC). Rumors have been floating months ago about the new iPhone and it was quite obvious as the Apple Store stopped selling the iPhone weeks back and eventually closed even international Apple Stores online. Anyway, here's the real news for us in Qatar who wants an iPhone 3G. No, not the unlocked, hacked, jailbreaked or what have you. A real legitimate, honest to goodness iPhone 3G in Qatar.
The new iPhone 3G would be available in America and other countries on July 11. This includes Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, Italy, UK and more. However, Jobs mentioned that they'd be launching the iPhone 3G to more than 50 countries this year including Qatar. If you check on the iPhone's Website and clicking on the availability of the iPhone 3G in Qatar, there is no mention of any specific date, yet. However, if you scroll down a bit, you'll see this...

Vodafone would bring the iPhone 3G to Qatar
Yup. You got it. it would be Vodafone who would be bringing the iPhone 3G to Qatar. It seems that although Apple has decided to launch the iPhone 3G officially to more countries, they still are implementing the need to have a phone carrier partner with them. That means you have to buy a contract with Vodafone (probably a year or 2 post paid service).
Now the big question about the whole thing is when is the iPhone 3G coming to Qatar? That, sad to say, might be early next year. A lot have been said about Vodafone providing service before the end of the year but I doubt that. They even need to piggyback on Qtel's infrastructure so I'm sure they have a lot of kinks to work out on. So, I'm sorry for letting you on. It was Apple's fault, really! I was hoping they'd open it up so that anybody can buy it without getting into a post paid contract. So for those wanting to have a legitimate iPhone 3G in Qatar , better luck next year At least we know that it's officially coming, Inshallah.
