Applying for New Philippine Passport in Qatar
The Philippine Embassy in Doha has released additional information regarding the new Machine Readable Passport (MRP).
The requirements for the issuance of an MRP are three 4.5cm by 3.5cm matt photos with royal or dark blue background containing the full frontal facial image of the applicant, a duly filled application form, the old passport with a photocopy each of the data page and visa page, and QR200 as fee.
The applicant has to appear in person since he has to sign and affix his fingerprint on the computer-generated form, which cannot be taken out of the embassy. However personal appearance can be waived for children below eight and adults 65 and older.
The Embassy has advised everyone to renew their passports at least three months before expiry or the expiry of the Qatar visa since it takes at least a month to process the MRP, which has to be sent to Manila by courier.
The old green passport, if not renewed, will remain valid until the date of its expiry. However, to avoid inconvenience in airports everyone is advised to obtain an MRP by April 1, 2010, the date agreed by member countries of the International Aviation Organization to have full MRP implementation.
The date of MRP implementation at the Philippine Embassy will be announced through the media and an Embassy Circular to the Filipino community in Qatar.
