Qatar Total Open 2008

They are coming! This would one of the most well-attended tennis events in Doha for the past years as 8 of the top 10 players would be playing on the Qatar Total Open, a top-one tier WTA event. Of course, who would want to miss the chance to win the whooping $2.5 mn pot which is one of the highest paying tournaments in the women’s circuit? It’s like watching the Sony Ericsson end of the year tournament which would feature the top 8 players before the year closes. Incidentally, that same tournament would now be held in Doha later this year.

Justine Henin, who is the winner of the 2007 tournament, would be missing as she decided to play somewhere else she thinks is more important. Hmp… Still, having Maria Sharapova and Daniela Hantuchova is enough. I’m not sure if Maria Kirilenko would also be playing but that would indeed complete the “glamour girls” of the WTA. For the Indian fans, Sania Mirza would also be attending.

Our friend Mandy, from Saudi, already booked his flight to Doha but not yet sure what actual day he would be coming.

So make sure you attend the Qatar Total Tennis open on February 18-24 at the Khalifa Tennis Stadium as this would be a hell of a tournament.

The eight top 10 players listed for the Qatar Total Open 2008:

No. 2: Ana Ivanovic (Serbia)
No. 3: Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia)
No. 4: Jelena Jankovic (Serbia)
No. 5: Maria Sharapova (Russia)
No. 6: Venus Williams (USA)
No. 7: Anna Chakvetadze (Russia)
No. 8: Daniela Hantuchova (Slovakia)
No. 9: Marion Bartoli (France)
