Weather Forecast

It surely is going to be cold for the rest of the week.  According to the 5-day weather forecast of Qatar by Weather Underground, we’ll be expecting a 90% chance of precipitation tomorrow and scattered until Friday with a temperature ranging from 9-16 Degrees Celcius.  It is bad enough that it is cold then it starts pouring.  It had been raining since Friday until but yesterday was the worst that I’ve experienced since we got here in Doha.  Sure there it rains a lot where I come from but that is just normal in my country.  But to have rain here, and flood thereafter is quite unexpected.  It was like being in the Philippines during the rainy season.

Anyway, Xiane still went to school yesterday.  We usually arrive in school before 7am but yesterday we came 10 minutes after 7.  There were deep puddles of water everywhere and some flooded areas.  There was heavy traffic that in all of the major and even minor thoroughfares which took driving home a longer time.

But hey, who am I to complain?  Nature is simply taking its course.  Come to think of it, we’re still lucky here in Qatar because we didn’t have to go through hazardous blizzards, perilous hurricanes and the coldest of winters with below zero degrees temperatures.

On a lighter note, I came across a co-parent yesterday while it was pouring.  She was bringing her youngest child (about 2 years old) with her.  They noticeably were not annoyed at all by the rain.  They were even trying to catch the raindrops as they stretched their arms beyond the umbrella.  Then I found out that it was the little boy’s first time to experience rain.  The mom said the boy kept saying “Water! Water!” They come from a country in Europe where also rains a lot but they only go there in summer for a holiday.  Just when I was resenting the rain, I bumped into someone who was the happiest at the sight of rain.  Then it makes you realize that it’s not all that bad after all.

Just a simple reminder though, let us all stay warm and dry.

Dec 2006 was worse during the Asian Games. Rememeber the heavy downpour, which according to the news was last experienced 40 years ago. In Jan 2005, it rained one night and the following morning, it was reported that 150 cars were involved in an accident.

It is now reported that 153 accidents have occurred since the rain started. The problem with the rains now is that it's bringing the cold front unlike last year when it was just rain and lowered temperature. My car gauge now says 8 degree in the morning when I go to work and I'm sure it dips even further in the evenings.
