Where Did All the Eggs Go?
There is simply a shortage or rather no supply of eggs in Doha. I've noticed it two to three weeks ago, everytime we went to Carre Four at the Villagio, not a single egg you'd find on the display shelves- whether it's Qatar, Saudi or UAE eggs. Then on Thursday, I did my shopping at Lulu Hypermarket. The shelves where the eggs used to be were being used for other items. So I asked one of the staff because I was thinking maybe they had it somewhere else. Then I found out that there are no eggs in Doha. The guy even said there is also none in Saudi. So what has happened? Is there a truth to the rumored bird flu in Saudi then? Or is the Qatari government just being cautious?
In any case, this scarcity in the supply of eggs will definitely have its repercussions. Not only that we'll be missing our all-time favorite breakfast item, not having a supply of eggs in Doha will definitely have an effect on the production of everything that requires eggs like breads, pastries and a whole lot more. A lot of people I know are also looking for eggs. Yesterday, we were at Familyt Food Center and I thought I saw an egg tray in a guy's cart. So I went to the display shelf for the eggs and found none. Was it just me or there was such a demand for eggs that they were gone just like that. Or was I just hallucinating about eggs? I'd rather that there is a great demand for eggs right now, than me hallucinating, harharhar!
Well, we still have at least a dozen of eggs which I bought from the store near our place. I got it for QR1.00 each though. If the situation gets worse, we could be spending more just to get hold of the much coveted "golden" eggs. I hope not because if that happens, we won't be having eggs for a very lone time. But more importantly, let's all hope that there is no bird flu to worry about.
