Missing Home This Season

The three of us definitely miss home especially that Christmas is just around the corner.  At this time each year, Tian and I would always tell each other that there is no Christmas quite like the one we have in the Philippines.  Celebrating Christmas is such a big deal for Filipinos thus everybody tries to make it very special.  I’ll be missing the Noche Buena the most, to be having a sumptuous dinner at 12 midnight with the whole family.  We’ll definitely miss the opening of gifts and long talks until the wee hours of the morning.  It is a special time when members of the family catch up on each others lives by sharing stories, experiences.  Sometimes it doesn’t have to be anything as serious, it could be sharing each other’s jokes.  The kids at Christmas are always the star.  They get a lot of presents from their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and most of all their godparents that is if they were lucky to have generous ones.  I’ll also be missing, waking up a little late in the morning and eating the leftover food from noche Buena.  But aside from all these festivities, we will surely miss our families the most.

When a lot of people you know are off to spend the holidays in their countries, you can’t help but feel sentimental.  Even Xiane has been asking us if we could go home to the Philippines for Christmas.  But then it never was our plan to leave during this time since we know that it would only be a short vacation.  We would like to spend our annual vacation in summer when we can have a 2-month long holiday.  I hope that someday though we can also come home for the holidays because there really is no place like home especially at Christmastime.  For now, we’re just glad that we’re spending this time with each other as one happy family of three- thankful that we have Xiane to brighten up our lives especially during this season.
