Kudos Xiane!

It seems only yesterday when the term started, when Xiane took the next big step in her young life.  The school year began on the 4th of September and I remember us scrambling to get a transport service.  Sixteen weeks or exactly 104 days later, I cannot believe that we’re down to the last day of the term which is tomorrow.  Tian and I are just so happy that we have made it through the first term.  But we can’t be prouder and happier that our daughter has faced the challenges of the “big school” with flying colors.

Xianelle going to the big school was an adventure of sorts for the three of us, her parents.  Yes there were occasional trips to the naughty chair and reprimanding whenever she was too much of a chatterbox in class; there were times when she was lethargic and was lazy to do work in class; there were instances of her coming home with sand on her hair; and an incident of pinching her classmate a few days ago after being teased.  But all these are part of growing up.  What I’ve learned from this whole experience is that children will be children no matter what family and background they come from.  They are playful, they always want to have fun and to a certain degree they can be “naughty”.  But I guess that is what parents are here for, to make sure that our children are given the proper guidance, to ensure that grow up knowing what’s right from wrong and more importantly, doing what is good.  Although there is no known formula in raising a child, my husband and I are hoping that we are on the right path by being firm and consistent with our daughter.

All-in-all, seeing how Xiane has grown psychologically and emotionally in the past months has been really great.  It was nice to know that she has gained some friends in school and has really come a long way with her socialization skills.  It’s also great that in this term alone, she’s learned how to read and write.  It still surprises me that my daughter can now recognize and read words although at times she still tends to guess the word.  At least we only had to remind her to look at the words closely and sound out the letters.  She can write her name and can write a whole letter as long as you help her with the spelling and guide her with the spacing.  She was able to write her letter to Santa last weekend without me having to guide her hand.  Sometimes though, she gets mixed up with her tracing in Arabic, that’s why she makes the mistake of writing right-to-left.

Tian and I can never ask for more.  This has been a good term for Xiane.  Though we need a well-deserved break, we look forward to the 2nd term.  We only hope that the coming term will be better and brighter for our daughter.  Ultimately we hope that Xiane continues to be a smart, happy, fun-loving, and vibrant good little girl.

Congratulations our baby!  We are truly proud of you and we love you dearly.
