Driving School Fees in Qatar

For those needing to get a driver’s license in Qatar, here are the fees being charged by the driving schools (Qatar Modern Driving School, United Driving Company, Gulf Driving School, Doha Driving Centre) available. Charges mentioned exclude some fees for the actual testing and the license itself if you do pass. I think for each test, you have to pay QR50. Some driving schools give you 3 chances to pass the test while others give you 4.

For starters, driving lessons are categorized into three:

Crash Course – This is a 12 day “Crash course in which you are given an hour’s lesson everyday. From the previous QR600, the fee is currently at QR900.

Half Course – This is a 25 hour course where you have to payQR1800 from the previous QR1500 fee.

Full Course – A 40 hour class is given to prospective drivers. Charges for the full course driving lesson would cost QR2100. Previously, they charged QR1800.

As you can clearly see, getting a drivers license would really cost you an arm and a leg! It is that expensive here for reasons I don’t know. The cars that they use are probably 3-5 years old or more. I’m sure they’re not paying the instructors more than QR10,000 a month, so why the high cost? And to think that the actual waiting period for you to take the classes once you register is now almost 4 months!
