Countdown to the Big School

Xianelle will be going to Doha Montessori and British School or DMBS. After the waiting game she and her friend Princess finally got their place at the school and we were able to register them just before we left for our vacation in May. Sunday, August 19. I called the school to ask about the start of classes. Their classes start on the 4th September.

Monday, August 20 - We, together with Princess, her mom and her little brother went to visit the school to get more details about the opening of classes, most importantly the uniforms. One of the staff gave us the info guide that had some of the basic information that we needed to know, especially as newcomers in the school. The lady also told us where to get the uniforms. It’s a store named Zaks, located along Salwa Road. It sells uniforms from the different schools here in Doha, like the Park House, American School Doha and many others. There the Xiane and Princess had to try on the uniforms. We had to get the size that would at least last them 2 school years, well, that is if they don’t grow as much as they did in the last 12 months! It was scorching hot, with the temperature reaching up to 50 degrees Celcius. We were sweating and my, we were so relieved when we finished doing our business at the Zaks. FYI, 3 pieces of size 6 dress uniform, a pair of PE shirt and trousers cost us QR395 or almost Php 5000! It is more expensive than the cost of my sister’s HS uniforms! We still need to get a cricket hat for them as well though right now they are out of stock. Stocks won’t be coming until Sunday.

Tuesday, August 21 - This morning I had to set my alarm for baking while Xiane was having her breakfast. In school they will only be given 10 mins break. Xiane is a bit slow in eating so she really has to learn how to eat fast. Naturally, she didn’t finish her food within 10 mins. I guess, we just have to put it into practice everyday until she gets used to it. Also, I have to give her just the enough amount of food that she can finish within that given period of time.

I can’t believe that our little daughter is taking big steps as she faces a very important milestone in her life. I just hope that she enjoys school as much as she learns from it. I’m quite sure though that the coming weeks and months will keep Xiane and I pretty occupied.

In line with this, I had to pass up a job application as a preschool teacher. It was not just possible at the moment since no one would bring her to school and pick her up after school. I would love to work but Xiane is still and will always be my priority.
