Transformers
When I heard about the live action movie they were making for Transformers, I got excited as it was my generation which experienced the craze that was Transformers: Autobots vs Decepticons, Prime vs Megatron.
I didn’t have a lot of transformer toys when I was a kid as they were more expensive than the G.I. Joe’s. If I can remember right, the ordinary toys cost between 250-350 pesos each (roughly 20-25QR) while the G.I. Joe figures were just about 90 to 110 pesos (8-9 QR). Still, Optimus Prime became a favorite as well as the Dinobots.

I saw the designs they had for the robots in the movie months before it came out and was surprised that they totally changed the looks of the robots to the vehicles. That turned me off. Who could ever think of such thing! I wasn’t planning to watch it on the cinema but the reviews got me excited again. RottenTomatoes User Reviews gave it an 83% approval. I did lower my expectations so I was glad that at least it was above 60%. Usually, these type of movies (Animated to live action) get less than a 50% positive reaction from viewers for either having such a bad script, low budgeted or they totally deviated from the original story. In this case, it did deviate from the story and even characters don’t look the same. However, it was far from being cheap. Michael Bay (Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, The Rock), the director who likes to blow up things, helmed this film.
By 6:15 PM yesterday, I was already outside the cinema thinking if I’d tell Mavis that it was great, good or ok. I decided to tell her it was good and ok. Definitely, it wasn’t great but overall, it’s a film to be enjoyed and it doesn’t really get boring with all the action sequences and stuff. I mean, Megan Fox is HOT! An Angelina Jolie in the making. She’s not that beautiful but the movie gave her enough character and appeal. Anyway, going back to the “Transformers”, I would recommend you to watch it if you’re an action-flick person. The movie sustains enough action but also would have done better if some characters or plot points were discarded. The main actor, Shia LaBeouf, gives out a good performance. The same voice actor from the original Transformers crtoon also did Optimus Prime's voice in the movie. I don’t want to give out too much detail. Nor give out any spoilers so you better watch it. For 30QR, it might be worth it!
***spoilers below*** can't help it!
* Qatar was where the first Decepticon attacked. So Qatar was mentioned a lot of times in the movie. Hmmm, did Qatar sponsor the movie so as to advertise the country? I'm sure everybody who watches the movie now wants to know where Qatar is.
* Prime gets to say "Autobots, roll out" and "One Shall Stand, One Shall Fall"
* Megatron gets to say "You fail me yet again, Starscream"
* At the end, Prime narrates:
"For now, the Decepticon legions are vanguished. And fate has yielded its reward- A new world to call home. We live amongst its people now, hiding in plain site...But watching over them in secret. Waiting. Protecting. I have witnessed their capacity for courage. And though we are worlds apart, like us, there is more to them then meets the eye. I am Optimus Prime. And I send this message to any Autobots seeking refuge amongst the stars. You are not alone. We are here. We are waiting."
