Brave Xiane
Last Monday was the most difficult time we've ever had since Tian and I became parents. It was hard both physically and emotionally not only for us but for our daughter most of alll. She started throwing up at 6pm and kept doing so every 30 minutes. After several times, we thought that it was more than just indigestion so we decided to bring her to the Children's Emergency Clinic. On our way there, she had to vomit 2 more times in the car. It's a good thing that we had anticipated this and brought along a basin. As soon as she was examined by the doctor, he ordered the nurse to give Xiane an injection to hopefully stop her from vomiting. Xiane was really scared but after explaining to her that she had to have the shot, she basically agreed. We had to hold her down though and make sure that she didn't move too much. Xiane cried as the long needle pierced her soft skin but not for long. It didn't take a long time to pacify her. Then we were told to stay so that she can be observed. We had to give Xiane some 7up to know whether she'd still throw up. After having done so for three times and after vomiting each time, the doctor informed us that she had to be confined for the night so that they will be able to monitor her condition.
It was Xiane's first time to be admitted in the hospital. I could just imagine how scary it was for her aside from the pain that she was going through, having vomited so many times already. First, they had to give her an IV to make sure that she won't get dehydrated. Xiane was definitely terrified and as parents we could only tell her that we're there for her. We told her that it would hurt but she had to bear it so that she'll get well. As always with Xiane, reason overcame her fears. And again we just had to hold her down. It was difficult to see your child in pain but there was nothing we can do. Fortunately, she had a good vein, making it easy for the nurse to place the IV. She also cried but only for a moment. Then we were placed in the ward. The hospital was complete with facilities and clean. Luckily both parents were allowed to stay for the night. There were just so many sick children that night, mostly ill with gastroenteritis just like Xiane. The kid beside us was having an asthma attack. Although we couldn't see her, we could hear a certain sound coming from her cubicle. It was like a sound that a dog makes when something is obstructing it's airways.
Both Tian and I were so tired and sleepy and had to make do with the chairs that they had in the cubicle. I was luckier than Tian though, mine was a lot more comfortable. During the night, the nurses kept watch over Xianelle, they kept coming every now and then. At 2am, we started giving Xiane 7up again. After the 4th time and not vomiting, the doctor finally discharged Xianelle. When we got home, we just ate breakfast and cleaned up and went to bed. We all woke up at 4:30 in the afternoon. Although at first, I thought we over slept and woke up the next day already. Thank God Xiane seems better now. She had fever last night untik this morning but at least she hasn't thrown up for more than 24 hours now.
We've never been prouder of her than now. As little as she is, she's truly shown us how brave she was. She's been most cooperative and the nicest girl amidst her ailment and all the physical and emotional trouble that she had to endure. It was really brave of her to have overcome all her fears and be strong. As her parents, we are just so amazed by her strength and ability for reason. I know someday she'll make us even prouder, though I hope not at a time like this. Hats off to you our daughter for being the bravest. I hope someday you'll get to read this and realize how truly proud we are of you. Get well our baby, we love you dearly.
