My 30th Birthday
I didn’t have plans for a party on my 30th birthday as opposed to the birthdays of my daughter and my husband. I just thought that it’s enough that I’d prepare some food for friends the day before and just spend some time with my family on my birthday itself. I was actually thinking of bringing the food to our friend’s place where we would spend the day but unfortunately, Xiane started to have fever on that Friday morning. So there you go, we needed some change of plans. They had to come to our house instead. I was only halfway done with the cooking when we suddenly ran out of gas. It was only 2pm and the gas dealer doesn’t open until past four. So I thought, of all the days to run out of gas! Finally it was 4pm but I was told that they can only deliver at 5:30. So Tian had to get the LPG tank himself. He struggled to get it up 3 flights of stairs, yup no lift in the building. As soon as the tank was set up I had to get on with my cooking. Thank God everything was ready long before our guests came and one of them wasn't spared from trying on the wig.
Our friends Sandro and Dimple and their kids came, along with Nonoy(Dimple’s brother) and two more friends came at past 6. They were bringing some “bulalo”, it’s a soup dish with veal shanks, sweet corn on a cob and some veggies. I cooked spaghetti, fried chicken and potato salad but everybody went crazy over the bulalo, especially its tasty soup and the bone marrow. We were all so full. Sandro wanted to sing so Tian played the guitar for him. After sometime, Dimple started to ask about my wig because I had promised her that I’d show it to her. The next thing I know, everybody was trying on the wig and we all had a good laugh especially when it was one of the guys who wore it. We even took photos of each one while wearing the wig. My wig was definitely the life of the party! Later on, two more guests came.
Then it was chatting here and there till past 10pm. All-in-all it was fun. I just really enjoyed the time that we had with our friends. It may have not been a big one but it’s definitely big in memories. It’s one of my birthdays that I’ll always remember.
