On the Road
One good thing here in Doha is that you’ll get your license the next day after you pass your driving test. I got mine yesterday. I paid QR155 when I claimed it. It felt so good to finally hold it in my hand. From then on, I never wasted time. I drove my husband back to his work. Then I had to go back to our friend’s place where I and my friend waited for our kids to finish school. Then we had to fetch the kids and after dropping them off to my friend’s house, I had to go back and fetch my husband from his office. Then I drove us home again. Whew! And that’s all in one day. I suddenly felt like I was working for Karwa. It was tiring but I’m not complaining. I’d rather get tired doing that than not being able to drive because I failed my driving test. It’s what I asked for and it’s what I’m prepared to do.
Driving in the busy roads of Doha is not such a bad thing. I guess, for a first-time driver here, I fared well. I only have to master roundabouts, which by the way are too many. In time, I know I’ll gain more confidence. My only prayer is not to be harmed and not to cause harm to others and to be safe at all times.
