Groceries in Qatar

Grocery list in Excel

Grocery list in MS Excel

We've tried to create a list for people wanting to know how much items typically cost in groceries in Qatar. We placed them in an Excel file so you can see and compare. Items would include canned goods like corn, corned beef, evaporated milk, tuna, Nestle cream to dairy products like eggs, milk, chocolate drink and other. It's not a big list since these items were only culled from the previous 4 trips to the groceries. We usually do our groceries in Lulu because we are close to Lulu and often than not, it's cheaper than other groceries. We do some occasional grocery in Carre Four, MegaMart, Family Food Center, and at times the Souq. One tip, it's much cheaper to buy Beef Ribs at the Souq. If you're more into condiments and spices, you can opt to go to MegaMart or Family Food Center. You can also do groceries at the Giant Stores in Hyatt but we find it to far and traffic can get really bad in the evening.We didn't include prices of vegetables and fruits but would update you with those as soon as we can. Hopefully, this can help you in sorting your budget expenses if you're planning to move in Qatar.We'll update this list as often as we can.

You can download the Excel file here

QR3.65 = US$1
QR1 = Php14.2 +/-

Hi xtian, thanks for the XL file - are these prices in QAR?

I have been following your blog since May after I signed the job offer from an oil company there in Qatar. It's very informative (e.g.the school fees and grocery prices)and your posts helped me to have a more realistic expectation about qatar living. thanks and keep up the good work!

Yup. All in Qatari Riyals. It depends on what currency you use at home. Basicallly, a dollar (US) is equal to 1 Qatari Rial. For Philippine peso, it's 14.2 pesos to 1 rial.

nigel, Thanks! Just trying to help out in any way we can for people planning to come here... XXX

Hi, I've just bumped into this site and found this information very useful. I've just signed my job offer for Intercon-Doha, and I've been surfing the net for information about living in Qatar, and tahnkfully, I found this. I didn't have any idea of how life would be like living there, and this would be my first time out of the Philippines. This is really great help. Thanks!

If Lulu had a online shopping and delivery facility it would be good. Subhiksha in Chennai had this and then they went bankrupt.

Well, I'm not too sure about doing your groceries online since I'd personally see items on the shelf and then buy it. But, in the middle east, you can call your neighborhood stores and have them deliver your water, soda, and other stuff that they have. Of course, the items you can order are limited.

Would you be able to tell me the approximate cost to furnish a two bedroom apartment?

It depends on you and how much you're willing to spend. You can have your basic stuff down to about QR15,000 (TV, Sofa, small dining, ref, oven, washing machine, utensils, cookwares, etc.. excluding aircons) or you can spend as much as QR30,000. A bedroom set alone could cost you QR 4000 upwards. A sofa set goes for 3K as well.
